Shooting videos is not that easy, especially if you’re by yourself from scripting your video, then you gotta deal with the gear and all the setup and the equipment.
In this article, I will show you make your youtube studio setup simple as a beginner.
Many times you might find yourself actually not going for it and shooting those videos. I’ll be breaking down this super simple video studio setup that really by a couple of switches will get you going shooting your videos, whether for youtube or business, without having to think about too much.
And this will work whether you’re using a smartphone, a point-and-shoot camera, or a camera with interchangeable lenses, like a Canon M50. And so keep it locked, and let’s get it.
Visit Amazon.com for more product info on the canon m50
You know, setting up every week or every other week or so to do batch shoots can get quite time-consuming. But I ended up going with one light, a tripod, and a wireless mic solution that I think will help you. And I think what’s cool about this, for the most part, it is a budget solution, and I think the best part about it is that everything I’m sharing is, can grow with you.
And so if you’re investing in an alternative or if you’re investing in some, in what I’m actually recommending, you’re gonna get excellent results no matter what kind of camera you’re using, whether a smartphone or interchangeable lens camera. So with that being said, check out links to the products that I’m recommending as well as alternatives if you’re trying to save even more dollars but let’s get into it.
I do want to let you know that combined. All this gear comes out to around $330. And like I said, this doesn’t include the camera you already own, which we would say is the camera you should be using to create content. So if you have your smartphone, if you have a point-and-shoot camera that shoots a decent video, you know I did this setup with a Sony ZV-1, a compact 4K camera.
Here are the Simple Youtube Studio Setup for Beginners
#1. Tripod. The first piece of equipment I want to talk about is the tripod, and I actually love this tripod. We actually have this K&F Concept tripod, but the one we found is very similar to it and actually cheaper and called a MACTREM tripod.
Visit Amazon.com for more info about the mactrem 62″ tripod.
And it actually comes with this smartphone mount for $70. So you get the 62 inches, up to 62-inch tripod with the mount for your smartphone and all for $67, which is pretty sweet, and I actually use this tripod honestly for probably 90% of my shoots.
However, I have a little more heavy-duty one that I will use I will use when I’m using, like a teleprompter, but for the most part, this will hold your setup, and I love the fact that it comes with that smartphone clamp.
Another thing I love about the tripod is that it packs up really small. And so, if you do go on a trip, this setup will work super clean in a hotel room setup. Like you can literally pop up shop, and you’ll have a good clean shot with everything that I mentioned. But I love the fact that it’s easy to not only pack up but then it also gets pretty tall.
So if you like standing and filming, this is the tripod for you.
#2. Lighting. The next piece of gear is lighting. But before I talk about this light that absolutely loves, I do want to pass the question off to you. I think content creators are in either two seasons, and let me know which season you’re in. The first is you’re just learning cameras. You’re trying to learn how to use your camera, your smartphone to create videos.
The second is you’re ready to actually grow your audience and grow your subscribers and actually turn this thing into an actual, you know, moneymaker or business-like in youtube.
Now the second piece of gear is the lighting. And I am using the Mount Dog Softbox Light, and I love this light because not only is it $53. If I had a second one, I probably either use it as a hair light or use it to fill in a few of my shadows, but one light is plenty.
if you want to buy the mountdog lighting, visit Amazon.com and for more info about this cool product
One thing to note is that this is just like an on-and-off kind of light.
#3. Audio. I think we say that 50% of video is audio, and so if your audio is bad and your video is good, the likelihood is that people are gonna click off of your video, so you want good-sounding audio. And probably the number one recommendation we have right now is the Rode Wireless GO. This is a $200 wireless Lav kit.
And the reason why I say Go Wireless is because again, with all the setup and untangling of gear and all that stuff, then it’s super great to have a reliable wireless audio solution.
And for 200 bucks, it’s actually pretty good for how reliable and how good they sound. Now, on this mic, but probably the other thing and my other favorite thing about the Rode Wireless GO is its versatility. This could be used as a boom mic, it could be used as a handheld mic, but you know who made it a Lavalier mic, but you can use it for various situations. And so I actually encourage a lot of people in our community almost before you buy a camera to think about investing in your lighting and your audio because this is what’s gonna grow with you.
Like once you get a camera, but the thing is, if you get a camera and you don’t have good audio, then what good is it, even to produce a crisp image but bad audio? So, I would encourage you to use your smartphone if you’re using a point-and-shoot camera; if your camera doesn’t even have an audio jack input, You can plug this into your computer or laptop and then sync your audio and video and post.
But if your camera does have a mic jack input, I tell you what, man. The Rode Wireless GO is the way to go. Now I do want to let you know that, you know, straight out of the box, this is a good mic, especially if you’re putting it on a camera. You can clip this part onto your shirt or jacket and then put the receiver onto your camera.
But if you are using a smartphone, especially an iPhone, there are some things you want to do.
The first thing is to get the lightning, you know, adapter. But you also want to get a splitter that will allow you to plug it into your iPhone’s adapter. And the splitter also is great if you want to plug it into your computer as well.
Nonetheless, maybe you’re at 20 bucks there. And the other thing I do like using is a Lav, and you can get a Lav for it. It’s around 70 or $80 if you get the Lav for the Rode wireless GO. I think more than anything, and it’s just a cleaner look because this could get a little bit bulky, but if you’re using a jacket, I think it’s fine, if you’re using a pretty strong shirt, it’s fine, but if you’re using thin shirts and stuff like that, it might not work out too well.
#4. Rode Magnetic clip
This is like a 15 or $20 magnet that they make. It’s a clip-on magnet that allows your Rode Wireless GO to be put on anything with metal or anything magnetic. So putting it there keeps it super clean and out of the way.
It doesn’t have to be complex. If it is too complex, I would say simplify the processes to upload more videos and get your message out to the world.
It’s gonna be such an awesome event. And what good is it to shoot all this stuff and not get in front of the people you want to get in front of?
And so learn the strategies and the tactics on how to get in front of the audience that you want to create or build and have authority to grow your impact, grow your income and grow your influence.
